Garuda - Cold Wired Sentiment

Next few posts are gonna be hometown bands, but I figured I'd start off with these dudes.

Garuda is easily one of the best bands to come out of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area (REPRESENT). Unfortunately they don't play any longer, but I had the lucky chance to see them May 1st at one of their two reunion shows (other being in Austin), and it was honestly probably the best, most solid set I've ever seen a band play. I was talking someone at the show and they were saying it's as if Garuda never stopped playing shows. The live set sounded like it was just straight from the record. So perfect for having not played since '04/'05 or something.

If you like anything hard, fast, tight, sludgey, heavy as shit, or just plain AMAZING, you should man up and do yourself a goddamn favor and download this album.

Deadline - 8-2-82

I don't really know too much about this DC hardcore band, except they kinda had another story like Rain's "La Vache Qui Rit," whereas the album wasn't re-released 'til years later, on Peterbilt Records. I don't know much more about them besides that, and that they're another band that gets little recognition.

They also have 3 songs on the Flex Your Head comp.

Here's 8-2-82 for ya:

Rain - La Vache Qui Rit

No one ever really talks about this band. Rain were from DC and started in 1986, but this flawless 6-song (bummer that's all there is) album didn't get released 'til around 1990 on Peterbilt Records. It sold out very quickly then, and had been OOP up until a couple years ago, when Dischord re-released it. Sadly, I don't think they released it on vinyl, but hey, who cares.

If you like Rites of Spring, Embrace, Dag Nasty, you'll LOVE Rain. John Kirschten totally even sounds like Guy from Rites of Spring.

Get your dick wet, mine sure is:

Deathreat - The Severing of the Last Barred Window (plus some)

Deathreat is another amazing band, also probably in my top 5 favorites. They were from Memphis, TN and I think started in 1997, no idea when they stopped. Hopefully they'll play/tour again someday, 'cus I never got to see 'em. What a shame.

Members of/went on to: Severed Head of State, Tragedy, From Ashes Rise, Criminal Damage, Signal Lost, etc. etc. and etc. If you haven't heard Deathreat (which you probably have), they don't really sound like any of those bands, they're so much better. At some point I'll upload more of their catalog, but 'til then, here's the best stuff. Includes a KORO cover.

Deathreat - The Severing of the Last Barred Window (including some extra tracks, and some alternative lyrics to one song):

Reason of Insanity - Discog (as far as I know/so far)

Reason of Insanity is probably in my top 5 or so favorite bands. They started in Lafayette, LA in 1999. Gulf Coast Hardcore at its fucking best! They cover "Face Down in the Dirt," by the Offenders and they do that amazing song such justice. ROI's Discog. includes splits with: D/FW's own BREAD AND WATER, Houston's RACE AGAINST TIME, SICK ABUSE (don't know where exactly they're from, but somewhere Gulf Coast), BAD EATING HABITS from Florida, I think (???) EL DESMADRE also from Houston, and a split with OTOPHOBIA. The Discog. also includes a track on the GULF COAST MASSACRE Comp., one full-length LP (amazing artwork on this baby), a Live on WMFU 7", and I think that's all. I've read online that they're going to be putting out a second full-length, "Violence" only to be pressed on 2 or 3 hundred or something.

Forgive me for most of these songs not being labeled, my computer done fucked some stuff up. But don't let that turn you away, I'm not sure how easy it is to find this stuff online (for d/l at least).

Myspace:

Maybe someday I'll edit all those unnamed tracks and then let you know when that happens.

Until then, download this sweet Discog.:

Burned Up Bled Dry - Cloned Slaves, For Slaves EP. Kill the Body, Kill the Soul EP. And Split EP with Deadbird

Burned Up Bled Dry are from Fort Smith, Arkansas. They played really intense, fast, brutal as fuck hardcore (I think(some say grind?)). Started in '96, and as far as my knowledge goes, they're no longer together, but I read somewhere that Evan said they are recording a full-length. That'd be awesome because this band is amazing. Best BLACK FLAG cover towards the end of Cloned Slaves, For Slaves.

Antidote - Thou Shalt Not Kill

Antidote were a New York band from the early 80's. All that needs to be said really is that this is, hands down, one of the top releases in hardcore. If you don't agree then you probably suck at things.
They had a couple reunion shows in NY like this past December or something. Wish I could have gone, the videos look like they're fucking spot on. Oh well. Listen to it.
